Within the F³ Factory project, radically new 'plug and produce' modular production technology was successfully developed and demonstrated in seven case studies defined by partners from the European chemical industry. As a result, it was possible to show that e.g. from an environmental and resource efficiency point of view, drugs, polymers or surfactants could be produced with a reduced energy consumption up to 30%, a solvent reduction up to 100%, a footprint reduction up to 50% and the potential to reduce or eliminate transportation by enabling local or point of use production through installing the production plants inside ISO containers.
It is thus our believe, that besides conventional production plants, these modular plants will play an increasingly important role in future industrial production, securing the European chemical and pharmaceutical industry's global technological leadership.
